SA: Health warning issued for Lakes Alexandrina and Albert
Health authorities are warning the public to avoid contact with water in South Australia's
lakes Alexandrina and Albert.
South Australia's Human Services Department says increasing numbers of blue green algae
have been detected in the lakes, near the mouth of the River Murray.
The department says the species detected so far are predominantly non-toxic, but contact
with large numbers of the cells could produce skin rashes and eye irritation.
It's advising people to avoid direct contact with visible surface scums and not to
swim in visibly affected waters.
