QLD:Doctors warn Bligh on health reforms

Doctors have warned the state government not to treat the dismantling of Queensland
Health as a rebranding exercise.

The Australian Medical Association says the government must drive real reform, and
consult widely with frontline workers about the two new entities that will replace Queensland
Health.

Premier ANNA BLIGH announced yesterday that she would split the state's largest government
department, after a Queensland Health public servant allegedly stole 16 million dollars.

AMA Queensland President Dr RICHARD KIDD says the announcement shows how dire the situation
had become in Queensland Health.

He says the bureaucratic department had turned into a beast which was choking the life
out of the health system and creating nightmares for doctors and other frontline staff
who do their very best each day to put patients first.

Dr KIDD says all parties must now use this new beginning to work together and find a solution.
